CENNI STORICI
The historical origins of the town of Corte are represented with fragments of pre-Roman and Roman ruins and relics of the Middle Ages. The first written account of the name Corte consists in a document of Charlemagne in 781. Since ancient times, the Corte has been a crossroads of rivers, ditches and a major hub of water, subject to continual overflow. The territorial work that has most affected the condition of the premises is the construction of the New Brenta, imposed by the government to safeguard the Venetian lagoon, and the next building, half a century later, the barrel siphon, a dig in the river that allows the Fiumicello to lead to the lagoon. The documents we received state that in the early fifteenth century, Corte is the most populous village. Of all of the villages of Piove di Sacco, it has always been the largest, for territorial extension, since the land reaches almost to the lagoon and in the number of inhabitants, which in certain historical periods has almost surpassed those of the other three fractions combined.
